There are 2 separate diets called the “Food Lover’s diet.” But the most popular is Robert Ferguson’s diet. It has been featured on things like the Today Show, and it appeals to the most basic wants of most people: to eat what you want and still lose weight! According to Ferguson, you can eat what you want and still lose weight, all you need is the right combinations.
When seen on much major news and other media programs, the Food Lover’s Diet focuses on eating fast food, meats, Starbucks, and anything else that you want to eat. It says that if you just add an extra scoop of protein, you can burn off 300 calorie Starbucks drinks, because to Ferguson, that is not that many calories. Last time I checked, most healthy meals average about 200 to 500 calories. Why are you wasting 300 calories in one drink!
With this in mind, the Food Lover’s Diet functions on the idea that protein is some kind of amazing fat burner. But frankly, people who use protein powders burn more fat, because protein sustains muscle and therefore supports workouts. It does not actually promote fat burning in and of itself.
Should You Use the Food Lover’s Diet?
It sounds appealing. Who doesn’t want the freedom to eat whatever they want? Who doesn’t want to be free to eat fast food or other fatty foods while still losing weight? Who doesn’t want to believe that protein will help you to burn off that fatty Starbucks latte? But let’s be honest for a moment.
Fast food will never be good for you. 300 calories is a lot to put in just one drink unless you are replacing your entire meal with that. And when those 300 calories are made up of fat and sugar, of course, it’s going to be hard to get all of the nutrients you need if you stick to a 1500 calorie diet!
The Food Lover’s Diet does not give you other recipes that are actually healthy. It really does encourage you to eat fast food and eat other fatty foods like potato chips or a baked potato with some butter to mimic the effects of a potato chip…….last time I checked, potato chips are not amazing weight-loss food.
So if you want to lose weight, you should probably stick to something else. If you want to lose weight, you should practice a little common sense. For example, replacing a Starbucks latte with your own homemade fruit smoothie might help you to lose weight. Replacing your fast food snacks with fruits and vegetables might help. This is too good to be true, and the only thing things like potato chips will do is make you fatter and contribute to heart disease and other problems associated with fatty and processed foods.
